ABOUT THIS MAP
Colour
Coded Indexes
This shows just one side of the map - the British and Canadian beaches. The other side of the map covers the American beaches.
Two maps fitted together give a complete picture of the entire coastline.
There are no other maps that give
such clear detail and accurately position the memorials,
museums, bunkers and cemeteries along the whole length
of the landing beaches. What is more the indexes enable
the reader/traveller to find particular memorials etc
with ease and the colour coding makes it clear immediately
what each lollipop represents.
The Image Above
Thus
on the image above all the yellow dots are memorials,
the blue one is a museum, the red/pink are bunkers and
the green a Comite du Debarquement marker. The numbers
allow the indexes which are coded in the same colours to be used to identify the exact nature
of the points marked
. There
are over 300 of them.
Battle
Lines and Modern Roads
Overlaid
onto the map, which shows the modern roads, are the
essential battle lines of actions of June 6 1944. The gap through which the German 6th June counter attack reached the sea can be clearly seen even on the rough image above
The
Guide Book
The
map references are used throughout the guide
book to guide the reader around the intineraries.
